Billups has built the largest out-of-home (OOH) advertising platform in terms of transactions and users. We have patent-pending technology for helping advertisers plan the right media and locations for the most effective impact discover how their ad spend impacts audience behavior.

Billups staff work closely between product, UX, research sciences, software development, and infrastructure teams. We are highly skilled and collaborative, working to deliver innovative solutions to our business teams. This includes new services & features in modern apps. We practice lean & agile development, pair programming, UX prototyping, test-driven CI, and pull request code reviews (ticket tracking, acceptance testing, etc.) to produce high-quality code and continue to learn and improve the system. Job Duties:

  • Bring a combination of mathematical rigor and innovative algorithm design to create recipes that extract relevant insights from billions of rows of data to meaningfully improve the user experience.
  • Learn, develop, and apply new techniques in the intersection of math, probability, and optimization.
  • Translate unstructured, complex business problems into an abstract mathematical framework, making intelligent approximations when needed to put your algorithm to work at scale.
  • Work closely with various product development engineering teams to solve key recommendation, discovery and search problems.
  • Maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
  • Respectfully takes direction from manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

MS/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Operations Research, Mathematics or related analytical field. 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write proposal and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate matrix transformations, integrals, derivatives, and to solve discrete and continuous probability questions as well as advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Computer Skills:

This is typically for an information technology position where the entire focus of the position is on computers or the networks on which computers communicate. Has advanced skills in working with hardware, software, support, and management of computer systems and can adapt extremely well to newer applications. Has advanced skills working with programming and networking computer software and systems.

Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using python or R programming languages and SQL. Experience with distributed computing tools like Apache Spark or Presto over the large distributed datasets to perform analysis and machine learning.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to reason logically about highly abstract and multilayer ideas and bring together disparate sources of information when forming a cohesive hypothesis. Skilled in the scientific method with a deep understanding of how to test a hypothesis and develop sound experiments. Demonstrates ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Aptitude to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
